The cosmopolitan state
New South Wales is a major global powerhouse with an economy larger than Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. NSW is Australia's oldest, largest and most cosmopolitan state, with a population of 7.3 million people. It is considered Australia's 'First State' and helped the country achieve 25 years of consecutive growth through its economic strategy of which welcomes international trade and investment.
In 2013 – 2014 Sydney, and one of Australia's largest cities generated more than $108 billion of revenue, representing over 7% of Australia's economy and providing over 437,000 jobs across all skills levels.
Sydney is a vibrant city and a world-class centre for businesses such as legal, financial, technology and management services. Over 90 per cent of international banks have their regional headquarters in the city, along with over 60 per cent of Australia's regional ICT headquarters and operations centres. The city is a great place to enhance you executive career and has one of Australia's most ethnically diverse populations and is an internationally recognised tourist attraction.
A modern industrial state of this size demands a functioning infrastructure network, such as transportation, communication and utilities to provide the people of NSW with the means to get to and from work. Having the necessary network in place allows for a social infrastructure to be developed and maintained such as health, educational and financial systems.
Together, these networks help provide a good quality of life and breadth of opportunity that have made NSW one of the best places in the world to live. Planning for the future, the NSW Government is undertaking an ambitious $20 billion infrastructure rebuilding program, including the following projects:
The motorway will deliver more than $20 billion in economic benefits to NSW, an estimated 10,000 new jobs and hundreds of apprenticeships. Major works are expected to commence in 2016 with the final stage scheduled to open to traffic in 2023.
The link between the M1 and M2 is recognised in the NSW Government's State Infrastructure Plan to reduce congestion. The $3 billion project provides a direct connection from north to western and southern roads and is expected to be open to traffic in 2019.
North West Rail Link
Sydney Metro is Australia's largest public transport infrastructure project and will be the first fully-automated metro rail system in Australia and is on track to open in 2019.
Sydney CBD and South East Light Rail
The development is part of Government's strategy to address Sydney's future transport challenges. This will deliver an integrated and modern transport system due to happen in 2019.
Pacific Highway duplication
The Pacific Highway upgrade is due for completion in 2020 and is one of the largest road infrastructure projects in NSW. Connecting Sydney to Brisbane. It is estimated that 2500 direct construction jobs have already been created due to the development and as work increases, this number could rise to around 4000 positions.
Sydney International Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICC)
Opening in December 2016, the $1.5 billion development is in the heart of Sydney Harbour waterfront and will feature a striking contemporary design, leading technology and multipurpose spaces used for innovation, learning and entertainment.
The underlying strength of the NSW was confirmed when the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) recently announced that the state now accounts for almost 60 per cent of new jobs across Australia.
