According to a recent Employment Outlook survey of 1,511 companies in Australia, employer demand is at a four-year high.
The quarterly survey measures employer’s intentions of increasing or decreasing the number of employees in the workplace. The survey conducted by the ManpowerGroup asked participants, “How do you anticipate total employment at your location to change in the three months to the end of June 2017, as compared to the current quarter?”
Australian employers generally reported that they were very hopeful of hiring, with 15% forecasting demand for an increased number of employees. Regionally, the biggest demand for staff is expected to be in New South Wales (NSW) and Australia Capital Territory (ACT).

Employer demand in Australia continues to grow
In comparison to twelve months ago, hiring plans improved in seven of the eight regions, including Western Australia, where companies report a sharp increase in the demand for new employees. Year-over-year, outlooks improved in six of the seven industry sectors. A considerable increase of 18 percentage points the Mining & Construction sector.
