The groundwork has begun on the extension of the South Morang line to Mernda. Over the next few weeks, construction workers will prepare the rail corridor for construction to commence later this year.

The AUD $600 million Mernda Rail Extension will build 8 kilometres of new track and 3 new stations, which is expected to be operational by 2019. The project will create up to 1,200 new construction jobs in Melbourne and a further 1,800 for local industries.
